Size is Overhead. Overhead is Cost.

I don’t work from home much anymore. I prefer being in the office. Considering our office is on the other side of the city, however, and I had two appointments in this area, it made sense to do so today.

At the morning appointment, Glen Sturtevant and I met with a lawyer. She was super impressive. I hope we can figure out a way for her to work with us.

It’s exciting to be growing again. We need the capacity to handle the volume of work. Our inventory of FTCA, vaccine and state law malpractice cases is higher than it has ever been. These matters need to be serviced.

On the other hand, I confess that the idea of expanding is also a bit scary.

Size is overhead. Overhead is cost - and generating the necessary cash can be daunting.

Been there, done that.

In 2016 and 2017 we went from 18 lawyers to the size we are now. That was difficult. Be that as it may, I am now happier than I have ever been as a trial attorney - and glad to be rid of some toxic characters.

Many complain about this profession. Some who have moved on to other fields call themselves “recovering lawyers.” Spare me.

I love practicing law. I have from the start.

It’s not easy. Frustrations abound. Other lawyers, including partners, can be a total pain. Challenges are plentiful.

Still, there is nothing else I would rather be doing. It may be a cliché, but I still learn something new every day.
