$545K SETTLEMENT FOR FATAL MEDICAL ERROR

Our client was 66 years old when she arrived at a Virginia hospital with respiratory failure from pneumonia. She was ventilated and placed in an induced coma.

She required post-pyloric tube feeding, which should have been performed with imaging guidance by a physician due to the complexity of the procedure. Instead, a hospital nurse attempted to place the feeding tube at the bedside with no physician assistance or guidance, resulting in the feeding tube being misplaced into our client's lung.

The hospital nurse exacerbated the problem by removing the feeding tube without physician's assistance, resulting in a perforated lung and several months of pain and suffering. Months later, surgeons attempted to remove our client's damaged lung, but our client did not survive the procedure.

The case resolved for $545,000.
