Carlyn (Cari) Mikalson has been an integral part of Rawls Law Group since its founding and has
worked alongside Brewster Rawls since 1991. Throughout her 35-year legal career, she has
focused primarily on medical malpractice litigation, developing extensive experience in both the
defense and plaintiff aspects of the practice.
After several years assisting in the defense of medical malpractice claims as a senior paralegal,
Cari transitioned to representing patients and families pursuing medical malpractice claims. For
more than 25 years, she has worked closely with clients through every stage of the litigation
process, from initial case evaluation and investigation through discovery, trial preparation, and,
when necessary, trial.
Cari has substantial experience in Virginia state courts and has also worked on cases in federal
courts throughout the country as part of the firm’s Federal Tort Claims Act practice. Her broad
background and deep understanding of complex medical negligence cases make her a valuable
resource to both clients and the firm’s legal team. Having helped shape the firm’s growth over
more than three decades, Cari serves as a key source of institutional knowledge and continuity
for clients and staff alike.
In addition to her litigation responsibilities, Cari serves as Rawls Law Group’s Practice Director.
In that role, she combines her extensive case management and client relations experience with
oversight of the firm’s operations, helping to coordinate caseloads, manage deadlines, and ensure
that matters progress efficiently and effectively.
Cari lives in Chesterfield County, Virginia. Outside of the office, she enjoys teaching yoga in
both studio and gym settings, spending time with her four adult children and grandson, and
remaining active in her community.
